I'm looking to pick a few brains with this one. A couple of us have booked up for the above trip next June. This will be new territory for me, so I could do with a couple of pointers from the well travelled amongst you guys. We are flying to Vilnius via Gatwick which brings me to my first question. We are staying Monday through till Thursday - but should we do two nights in Vilnius and one in Minsk or vice versa? What are the pros and cons of either city? How is the transfer from Vilnius to Minsk best handled (bus or train; book now or later)? My fourth question surrounds the invitational visa required - best sorted out now when booking accomodation or dealt with later through STC? Thanks guys... in anticipation.

Best to have 2 nights in Minsk... to get from Vilnius to Minsk takes a good 6-8 hours by bus or tain (and thats if you get through the boarder with no problems ) But, the railway network out there is still very Soviet standards... so it's pot luck... show up at the station and you will get a ticket no problem, or could turn out that the train has been booked up for weeks with no room. I might be going from Riga or Kiev (depends where my better half is working at the time... hell could even be Glasgow at the rate she is going through jobs just now ;D ) .... but once I get back from Moldova, going to start working on this one. Visa's... try contacting this company, andrey@beltour.minsk.by BelarusTourist cell: +375 29 771 61 51 travel and tourism fax: +375 17 226 94 21 company They can book a hotel for you... and for $20, they will supply you with a full official invite to get your visa Also best to contact them about getting from Vilnius to Minsk... they have been a great help for me so far Clark

J.P..... Sorry mate. I've had to get my hard drive reformatted again and as a result have a new e:mail address. If you drop by after the holiday weekend I'll give you that stuff you were looking for. No, I haven't ruled out the Slovenia gig but certainly moving the game to Celje has kind of ruled out our planned route. Pat is going to look at alternatives and we'll make a decision in the new year. As far as the rest go, it's as follows; Moldova (yes) Italy (yes, although unsure of travel arrangements - Dez is still keen to drive) Belarus (yes) Norway (definitely not going) and Slovenia (probably). If a friendly comes up that appeals I would consider it but to be honest cost would be the overriding factor. Hope that helps mate. Wanderer; Cheers for the info mate. Like yourself I'll get to work on it after Chisinau. To be honest you've got me a wee bit concerned though. Our return flight from Vilnius leaves at 2.15 p.m. the day after the game so I'll have to get on the ball with the transfer from Minsk sharpish. Thanks for now and in the meantime if anyone has any more pearls of wisdom, internet sites etc. I'd be grateful.

Wanderer have tried e:mailing this address but haven't had any reply. Is it true that a visa is no longer required?

Some one is yanking your chain, as you DO still need a visa for Belarus, though I think the whole system is changed (but not any easier now). That company changed their email address last month, it is now possiable to contact them using this address, contact@bsptour.comHope that helps. Clark

Cheers Wanderer. Got all our visa stuff in today through Belintourist. Staying at the Yubilyena for two nights. I have decided not to do the Tally trip in favour of a right good go at the Slovenia gig. Can't do em all on my limited income I'm afraid. Good luck to everyone heading for Milan but having encountered Italian fans a few times on Celtic duty can't say I'm too upset at missing out on this one. Well maybe just a wee bit.

Is there any word on kick off time for this one? We are still trying to firm up travel plans for heading back to Vilnius for the flight home on the Thursday. Also, is it true that Lithuania have adopted European time whereas Belarus is still a couple of hours of a difference? If so thats gonnae mess ma heid right up after a good swally.

We are on a bus organised by Danny Divers from Vilnius. Dunno where it is leaving from yet but I think it is leaving around 10am on the Tuesday. I am guessing here but I suppose that will mean that we will be around an hour or two behind you guys arriving in Minsk. So you lot can have the Russian rocket fuel ready and waiting at the bar for me and the Pat fella.
