I had the dreadful misfortune of going to the Livingston V Killie game last night. I was one of the few 2,513 hardy souls to endure the sub zero temperature to watch the poorest standard of SPL football I have ever seen.
For a start, the ticket entry was £18, a national disgrace. They wonder why they have so few spectators. It even cost £3 to park.
The standard of play was shocking. A Livvy team full of foreign nobodies and journeymen pros against an unorganised, unmotivated Killie team of average Scottish pros, none of whom could even control the ball with their first touch.
So what hope has the national team actually got? The Old Firm teams are full of foreign players. The Edinburgh teams are filling up rapidly with young English Players(Hibs) and East Europeans (Hearts) and the rest are serving up such a poor standard of football that they will never be considered to move up a standard.
It will not be long until the national team is full of English Championship players who would never have had a second look in days gone by. The 3 Scots who played for Sheffield Utd against Arsenal 2nd team on Tuesday for example would never have been quoted in Jock Steins day but on Tuesdays showing they are all worth a look.
I am not optimistic for our immediate future.

On the subject of SPL pricing....how many do you think would have attended this fixture if it was a tenner to get in?
