Stuart Mccalls goal in Genoa and Super Mo's penalty against Sweden, Italai '90' the 2 mile march to the stadium ( the original march to a ground ) before the game with women waving from tenement windows. A thousand Scots led by a piper and 100 drunk Swedes given their place at the back! This made up for the Costa Rica game. the atmosphere was amazing, red hot and we willed the team on. the pre match warm up against the costas was all fancy dan stuff. We waltzed thru the game in a trance. The team looked determined this time the dusk of genoa and I bet the lad next to me that captain Roy Aitken would kick the first Swede he encountered. If you ever see the highlights I am proved right. What a night, what a night! Remember you old Westa chaps, when Murdo Mcleod was a guest he was asked the difference between the 2 games and he said, the lads just knew what to do. My theory was that it was Aitken and 20,000 Scots.

remember the day well. Did David Macpherson not play alongside Craig Levein? I felt Roxburgh suffered an undue amount of criticism re his tactics against the plucky Costa Rica. Wasn't Rambo unlucky missing 23 chances that day. Whatever happened to him? Such a talent shouldn't go amiss. Was he not Hearts manager last Tuesday?

They certainly don't make talent like Mackinally any more. Even Bertie would'nt have picked him. We once had to beat San Marino by a barrowload to qualify for a Euro championship and the game was played early. Roxburgh that shrewd old fox played Macpherson as a winger. and Super Mo was on the bench. We won 4 - 0 and went to Sweden.

I asked my Dad and he said Macinally was a big pudden. Do you mean another one?

no he was a big pudding! he was running through with only the costa rica goalie to beat in the '90 world cup game, rounded him and his bunnet fell off and he tripped over it. Seemingly Roxburgh had this plan that all the Scots would wear a lucky bunnet that fatefull day, that was the second part of his cunning plan. the first was to make sure that Rambo took all the shots on goal, or as the press wrote the day after ' the shots away from goal'. Anyway, all the rest refused to wear the bunnets except Rambo , who had read an article in a german magazine that ' das Beckanbauer, der kaiser, und all die Deutche fussballer grosse hute tragt'. Which I'll give rambo his due does read as Beckanbauer and all the german footballers wore hats. however it later appeared that they wore the hats to the bavarian beer festival and not the '74 World cup final as 'Der Rambo' believed. Anyway , the bunnet surely kept the sun out of his eyes, it also kept all his shots out of the Costa Rica net. 23 Scots returned from italy with match balls from that game all punted into the stand behind the goal by guess who. Rambo gave his bunnet away to a fan after the game, personally signed it 'lucky'. Wonder where that bunnet is now?

Yes we at the Mighty Bayern Munchen remember Der Pudden well! As manager of Deutschland I spotted him at the Costa Rica game and laughed out loud at his bunnet. I mentioned him to a friend at ZDF, the TV station. the plan was that he would replace Benny Hill as the funny man on Saturday nights after Sportschau! He was signed from Der Aston Villa on a 2 year contract and sent to cover a Bayern Munchen game dressed as a juggler. However Karl Heinz Rummenigge had a particularly bad cold that day andsuffering from a high fever accidentally put Der Rambo on as a second half subststitute. He scored 2 goals and was kept in the team. We in deutschland often wonder what happened to him as we are worried his talent would be lost to showbusiness. Is he still juggling?

he struggled to juggle mixed metaphors and lost his job! The last I heard he was whistling. At least that's what I think he is! he recently said he had applied for a job and was told ' to whistle for it!'
