For all those that have been in Oslo before, what are the best bars for atmosphere, and cheap beer (if there is such a thing)

There is no such thing.
However the best two bars we went to last time were the Scotsman Bar in the City Centre beside the shopping square and the Valarenga supporters pub which is just one street north of Karl Johans Gate beside one of the big hotels, some great football memorabilia in there.

Have to say that I didn't fancy the Scotsman too much (oo er) an expensive pub in an already expensive city. It is however the ideal meeting spot as it's so easy to find.
The pub of choice has to be the Valengra Supporters Club - although it can get crowded. Staff are great, locals friendly and for those who require it in the early hours a kebab stand directly opposite.
During the day I would recommend going down to the harbour area, the prices are a bit higher than elsewhere, which means take out a mortgage in Oslo, but if the weathers okay it's a perfect setiing with a line of pubs and restaurants, it's only a short walk from the centre proper.
For a great view of the city and all the way to the olympic ski jump - the bar on the top floor of the Raddison SAS Hotel is ideal

I have just remembered the name of the supporters pub it's "The Bohemen" for late night drinking i.e. after this one's closed - there's a grunge / rock / anything goes type of pub down an alleyway close by called "So What" from hazy recollection the beer was good, wasn't too expensive (well everything is relative in Oslo) and the locals were completely blootered!!

Broon, the Raddison is where the Irvine two will be staying when in Oslo - looks like we'll be checking out the 'view' on the top floor........and you say they sell drink up there as well, interesting?!
If Norway was anything like my last visit there with Mr Adams etc then we're in for a great few days. Just a pity about the mortgage required to buy a drink in Oslo!
Hopefully we'll get the result we need tomorrow to set things up nicely for the game on Wednesday. Cannie wait to see and hear Hampden just before kick off the morra', the place will be bouncing!!!
