There were so many things wrong last night its hard to deal with them all. But here goes anyway!
Switzerland were technically better and clearly faster and fitter than we were. There's no excuse for the latter as they will be at the same stage of their season as us. We are now unfortunately all too used to the former.
The Swiss were very quick to get back and defend in numbers and also very quick to get up and support a quick break as you can see from the first two goals, where as, we kept trying to play the same ball to Kenny Miller who ran his bollocks off and in most cases held the ball up well but was then forced into wide areas. He put in a couple of very good crosses but the support in the middle was non-existant.
Why was Davie Weir (about who we know all we need to know) Chris Dailly (who cant get a game at West Ham) and Barry Ferguson (who claims to be carrying an injury) playing at all. If a home friendly is a reason for anything it is surely the chance to give fringe/new players playing time and the chance to gain some experience.
Why, when we were losing the game did we change our formation to be more defensive in the second half? When we are 2 goals down why did we not give Maloney and Riordan the chance to play and provide support for a willing Kenny Miller?
The first two goals we lost seemed to me to be down to 2 reasons. They had spotted Alexander as the weak chink in the defence (very astute I am sure) and played the ball behind him when they could and secondly we did not attack the ball as it came into the box. At both goals we had plenty of bodies around but no conviction to win the ball.
We could go on and on but whats the point? If we need a scapegoat I am sure that Walter will do. when we had results and performances like this under Bertie he was pilloried, therefore so should Walter be!
Lastly, the support was terrible. Its too easy to blame the SFA for this. There are plenty of people, including people on this list, who will travel the world for a Scotland trip but cant be bothered to come to watch our team play at our own national stadium. No excuses, its just not good enough. If you are simply a "trip collector" at least be honest and admit it!
