The question whether the visit of france in October and the subsequent victory represented the best result ever against the best team ever to play at Hampden was discussed well into the night. Good as the score was we have beaten world champs in the past. Forget '67, yes please forget '67, we didn't qualify for the Euro championships in '68 as we finished 2nd in that particular group courtesy of a Northern Ireland defeat. We beat the world champs, West Germany 3-1 in Stuttgart in '57. They won the Jules Rimet trophy in Switzerland in'54 beating Hungary. We drew 1 - 1 with Brazil in '66 pre the world cup and in '90 we beat Argentina reigning champs 1 - 0 at home with Stewart Mckimmie scoring a cracker.

I remember the day well! When we scored I threw my trusty bunnet in the air and haven't seen it since! If anybody found it can they please return it to the Sports cafe. It is tartan and answers to the name of Lucky!

In answer to the question were they any good, well better than the French team of 1990 when Super Mo scudded the French with 2 belters . Mind you they got their own back later on that year with a vengance!

Got my bunnet back, thanks to all those who looked for it. Seemingly the french fans had planned to take it back to Paris as it looked so lucky. my pal joey saw a french fan wearing it and he asked for it back. the french fan just handed it over and said ' vous ettes en lucky bustard!'

Had the pleasure of seeing a really superb french team in Marseille '84 , a 2 - 0 defeat by a team including Giresse, who scored 1 & Battiston, & Platini, &Tigana.

Yes I remember the day. the french were brilliant, I met a crowd of lads on the way back to Scotland on the train. they had driven over and filled the petrol car with diesel. Shame the driver had forgotten to take his lucky bunnet
