Let me set out the case for the Lawman. Scored on his debut Wales aged 18 Only Scottish European player of the Year 55 caps, 30 goals and not many diddy teams around hard as nails Wanted to thrash england in '67 rather than humiliate them, gets my vote Scored 7 against Norway in the same year

He scored 4 against Northern Ireland in '62. Wee Willie henderson scored the other. Another great game was the world cup qualifier in '61. the Czechs were a crack outfir and would reach the World Cup Final in '62. We lost 4 - in Bratislava and we got them back at Hampden with law scoring 2 , ian St John 1. hoorah we won 3 -2. We lost in a play off in Brussels where in the break in the extra time Baxter & paddy Crerand had a fight over the sponge and fell out even though they were best pals. Funny that. That was the best set of Scotland players ever. Forget the 50s or 70s , they were special.

I have read all about Dennis and he was simply the best. Fast , great header of the ball and fearless. Played for Turin in Italy. At the time youngest cap for Scotland.

Denis was great and so brave. How come Schottland never won any trophies? You had so many great players!
