We need a proper and frank debate about Scotland's future. Where does the departure of Walter leave us? Are the kids coming through good enough?

Looks like McLeish. I hope TB stays on as no.2. If you think about it theres no really anybody else suitable. I'm still not impressed by the SFA's paper tiger impersonation over this whole sorry affair. Who's running the game in this country? David Taylor or David Murray?

The decision looks like next week as the media is hinting at an approach to Big Eck. The package is important as part of the success of Walter was the trio inc Tommy B and Ally. Will Tommy work with Alex? Is gary Macallister interested in a part time role? Whoever gets the job will be under a lot of pressure as the group is about to get even more difficult. We really needed at least a point in The Ukraine. back to Eck. The fear would be that he would be attracted to a big Premiership job if one came up. That old Scottish phrase oft used by The Bard - Robert Burns. ' Doin' a Walter'. ( translated as leaving halfway through a job ) springs to mind.

Will the B game give us a few clues as to the future? Worryingly Scotland are still relying on Weir , Dailly and Alexander is no spring chicken.

I doubt the 'B' international will help much but I do have high hopes that Wilson (Celtic), Smith (Rangers) and Berra (Hearts) could replace the three old timers you mention - and fairly soon as well.

With things going the way they are, whoever the new coach is he could be in the unprecedented position of being able to pick a defence from people actualy getting a game with their clubs.

When thinking about the Scotland teams future, despite things improving lately, how far can we really go? I was watching a couple of games on ESPN on Sky over the last couple of days.. for those who dont know, this channel shows old 'classic' matches and is a great watch. The first game i saw was a 1986 title winning match between Chelsea and Liverpool. There were 9, yes 9 Scots on the park. Dalglish, Hansen, Gillespie, Nicol, Speedie, Nevin, Joe Mclaughlin, Rougvie and then Kevin McAllister came on as a sub. The next game i saw was the 1979 FA Cup final between Man utd and Arsenal. Albiston, Buchan, McQueen, Macari, Jordan for Man Utd and Willie Young for Arsenal. These 4 'big guns' play today and tomorrow in England and the only possibility of a Scot is Darren Fletcher, who'll maybe be on the bench. We really have come a long way since those days... whoever takes over has a big thankless job to do and we can only hope the current crop of promising youngsters do come through and show the promise they clearly have.

Davy That's a great point - out of interest how many Englishmen were playing over the weekend compared to the previous games ?

DT is in a bad position. People do not understand that he is not the boss, he reports to the committees not the other way round. He does his job with an arm tied behind his back.

Exactly Marky. That's why things at the SFA will never change and we'll never get rid of the blazers and their freebie trips.

One arm tied behind the back is painfull! i suggest a different size of blazer and taylor's one obviously doesn't fit. Anyway if Big Eck is not a success then he will have one hand behind his back facing a shoogly peg with a blazer hanging precariously on it.

I would say that have talked to him at a WESTA meeting he is very frustrated and that perhaps the job and its responsibilities were exaggerated at his time of appointmnet.

I too am feeling that your David Taylor is how you say a diddy. He will never filling the vacant blazer at UEFA. I am hoping that him and his new friend Michelle Platini (Girls name!) make big eejipts of themselves. Ha how I will laugh, almost as much as I did when arranging an international game in Monaco, ha ha ha, it is misfortunate that I forget who I made play there.
