The fallout from the latest WESTA tour is of nuclear proportions.
However firstly Westa News hears that the 30 members leaving Glasgow Airport at 6.00 on Wednesday morning were in good heart and welcomed on board as honoured guests Andrew Gibson & Hamish who proved to be inseperable for the next 22 hours.
With an inclement weather forecast Westa were nearly charged excess baggage with the weight of goretex waterproofs! Dire warnings of the Faroe Isles Fog Festival due that day were typically unfounded, it seems that we were a day early! Shame!!
A glorious day for promenading around the picturesque capital town of Torshavn.
The TA were out in force and showing optimism & confidence with the game coming up!
Changed days indeed.
The square was respendent with banners and a gloriuos rampant Lion TA flag. This prompts the question of the neccessity for a new WESTA flag. Only when the glorious history of our supreme supporters club is written will the full facts be known over the dissapearance of the club flag.
A flag that sat proudly at the Real Madrid - Valencia Champions League final in Paris slap bang on the halfway line opposite the cameras & the watching billions. This correspondent can only think that the flag in becoming the most famous fitba flag in the world ( official ) became so valuable that it was stolen from the ever watchful WESTA 'guardians of the flag'! The wherabouts may be a mystery forever. My hunch is that it is on a world tour of great games and will only return when we qualify!
A victory well deserved courtesy of Oconnor & Maloney & a special thanks to Craig Gordon, we set off back to the airport. The Ayrshire boys should be congratulated for their continual banter and singing the whole 2 hours! 4 encores really is scant reward for chanting of the highest order. A round of applause for Greg & Glen.
A special 3 cheers to Jim & Jen for laying on a secret buffet at the hotel & it was heartening to see Andrew balancing Hamish on his knee & feeding him his favourite pickled fish!
A tired party arrived at Glasgow airport triumphant and tired. 'Star of the trip' trophy was awarded to Bits proudly holding the match ball. We look forward to him playing in the holding role in WESTA'S triumphal campaign to win the ATAC Tenents cup in Inverness. His speed & agility will be vital.
