Thank you - to all from WESTA and their guests for their contribution to a truly fantastic Burns Supper held at Oran Mor. As WESTA enters it's tenth year, the event was a credit to us all. The quality of the speakers and entertainers was exceptional and made for a memorable night. Such events do not just happen by chance, I wish to personally thank the organising committee for their sterling efforts both on the night and in the weeks / months leading up to it. Take a bow - Lesley Inglis, Jen Blackwood, James Coggs, Hamish Husband and Tam Coyle and of course the many others who assisted in programme printing, selling raffle tickets etc Lesley's Selkirk Grace was word perfect, Gerry Brady's Address to the haggis embelished by a 'phrase which would have been alien to Burns, Gus Clarke's piping got the toes tapping, the delivery of the Immortal Memory by George Moore Q.C both humorous and poignant. The singing of Claire Thyne would make a grown man weep, her version of Highland Cathederal was amazing. If Alasdair McMillan was any more laid back when singing he would fall over - Caledonia was very relevant to many in the auditorium. The piano accompaniment of Neil Gillies was superb. Rab Wilson's poetry brought the house down. Gerry McCulloch's toast to the lasses had the men both laughing and cringing. The reply from Sheelagh McLaren saw her give as good as she got. The timing ran almost to plan through the excellent MC Hamish Husband and Tam Coyle's music produced some scary sights on the dance floor. All ably assisted by the tremendous venue and superb service from the staff at Oran Mor. A brilliant night and I know from the comments of our invited guests from the SFA that they thoroughly enjoyed their evening, George Burley was particularly free with his time, posing for numerous photographs and delighting many with his speech and conducting the raffle Well done WESTA Jim Brown Chair.
