Minutes of Meeting Sunday 23rd February 2003
Venue: Iron Horse, West Nile St, Glasgow
Members Present: Tommy Madden, Hamish Husband, Gerry Brady, Tam Coyle, Greg Fisher, Mark Adams, Glenn Hays, Nancy Dowie & 28 others
Apologies: Jim Brown, Neil Harper
Chairmans Report
Hamish welcomed everyone present and reported that the Burns Supper/AGM had been our best yet. He reported that Marjory Nimmo had been delighted with the bouquet that WESTA had sent her and indicated that she would be invited to a future meeting. He also spoke of the end of an era at the SFA and intimated that there would shortly be a new structure in place at the SFA.
Secretarys Report
Tam reported that only 60 of last years 130 members had re-joined this year. All members should `remind` any lapsed members to get in touch with TC with their subscriptions. The SFA have been informed of our updated office bearers with electronic correspondence noting these amendments being received from both David Taylor and Willie McDougall. TC also indicated that the committee were exploring opportunities for future guest speakers/events throughout the year.
Treasurers Report
Gerry reported that he is finalising last year`s accounts. He is also changing the list of authorised signatories and will pass finalised accounts to David Watson/Andrew Gibson for auditing purposes.
Full treasurers report will be produced next month.
Lithuania Trip
In the absence of Jim Brown, TC passed out final flight details to those present who would be making the forthcoming NOSTA/WESTA jaunt to Kaunas
Dortmund Trip
JB has received correspondence from the Newcastle ferry company indicating that a £10 per head non returnable surcharge will be imposed in addition to the £50 pp bond. TC will discuss our response with our fellow ATAC clubs at the ATAC meeting 02/03/03.
Scotland/Eire
Nancy reported that the bus to Hampden had been a success. TC will apply to SFA for car parking pass for the forthcoming Iceland game.
Norway/Scotland
It was re-iterated that individuals travelling to this game should note that cheap flights were filling up fast.
Website
Mark Adams informed those present that the WESTA website [www. Westa.org.uk] has only 36 registered members. MA implored members to register and use the website. TC added that the minutes of tonight`s meeting/any other relevant information would be posted on the WESTA site.
Kirkin` O` The Tartans
Tommy Madden gave a presentation on Kirkin o the Tartans to be held at St Enochs Hogganfield Church@ 2.30pm on Sun 6th April. It is hoped that many WESTA members will attend.
Charities
TM gave a short talk on `Hope and Homes` as did new member Ruary McGregor on the TAMB `Sunshine Appeal`. After a lively discussion on the merits of domestic/foreign charities, HH intervened and decided that WESTA will vote at the next meeting on which charities to support in 2003.
Fitba Team
Dario Walker has been sacked as team manager. Members still recall the shame of losing to Loony Alba at last years Perth tourney and Glenn Hays has been appointed new supreme. Forthcomin 11 a side features against LOBTA [friendly] and the Wash Hand Basins for the Nan Madden Memorial Trophy will be arranged. All interested parties contact GH. The STC 7 a side tournament has been scheduled for 21st June [venue tbc]
Merchandise
Nancy canvassed opinions on various t shirt designs with members voting overwhelmingly to return to the original WESTA design. The WESTA wenches will continue to provide an innovative range of merchandise [tshirts/Boxer shorts/Plastic macs/Tablet/Condoms] on matchdays upstairs at the Iron Horse.
ATAC
Various members expressed their disappointment that Marjory Nimmos presentation had been scheduled for 7.45 and not half time.
Members overwhelmingly backed TCs proposal to write a letter of complaint to the SFA over league fixtures being rescheduled for the 29th March in direct opposition to the Scotland/Iceland game.
Andrew Gibson also brought it to the attention of the group that the Scotland/Italy six nations game was on at the same time.
TM asked could ATAC be represented in all future meetings between SFA/Police/Rock Steady before games at Hampden.
It was also felt that the on going personality clashes between ATAC reps could be resolved by rotating all ATAC reps on a meeting by meeting basis [ie no rep could attend more than 8 meetings]
Finally, it was asked did all ATAC clubs fulfil the ATAC membership criteria in 2002.
AOCB
AG thanked all [especially MA] for their contributions to the Burns Supper.
AG/TM expressed their concern about the lack of professionalism shown by the SFA in the marketing of recent fixtures. Various areas [from lack of adverts in the programme to the promotion of the game itself] was discussed and unfavourable comparisions were made between the SFA and the SRU/Scottish Claymores in their marketing of their respective events.
MA asked if more members are interested in attending the Scotland U-21 fixtures as they have been playing exciting football under Rainer Bohnoff.
