Minutes from WESTA monthly meeting – May 2005
Attendance: Tam Coyle, Glenn Hays, Greg Fisher, Hamish Husband plus 39 others.
Apologies: Jim Brown, Gerry Brady, Mark Adams and Pauline Robertson.
Vice Chairman TC welcomed all in attendance, in the absence of JB, and went through agenda of May meeting.
No Secretaries report. GH went through minutes from April meeting.
With GB unable to attend this months meeting there was no Treasurers report.
Travel Convenor GF went through details for travel arrangements to Riga and Minsk. GF explained that there had been a delay with the hotel vouchers which were needed to apply for the visas although this was soon sorted. A contact that GF knew down in London was picking up all passports and visas from the embassy on everyone’s behalf. For the trip to Riga, GF stated there had been no progress as yet with accommodation, this being due to an opera festival taking place in Riga that very week. GF explained that he was trying all possible solutions and was confident of finding something before everyone left, although one alternative was to spend 6 hours in a local club, no doubt of ill repute!! Janis Murray enquired if an agenda had been set yet for the trip and Neil Harper asked if all the arrangements for the bus were now sorted. GF stated that everything was now in hand regarding the bus from Riga to Minsk. Stuart Scott asked if the journey would be broken up with the time and distance involved. GF said that there would be stops along the way but not for any great length of time and GF also stated that any ‘cairry-oots’ for the journey were to be bought before we left.
TC went through AOB
First of all TC enquired to any demand for a bus to Hampden for the Moldova game. A number of members said yes and Nancy Dowie said she would happily run/organise a bus to Hampden, agreeing with TC that cost would be £1 to members and £2 to all others. Also on the subject of the Moldova game, TC asked if all present would wish post-match entertainment at Iron Horse – all said yes.
TC went through ATAC minutes from last meeting (see full print out of minutes) with the subject of home fans and away fans i.e. The Tartan Army paying the same price for a match ticket being of particular interest to the members present. Another point for discussion was whether the Scotland strips in the future should have ALBA on the badges but WESTA members voted a resounding ‘No’ to this.
TC reminded everyone of the Wallace Walk taking place on August 23rd and again asked those present of any interest. TC said that he would be attending and Moira Brown, Nancy Dowie and Alistair Dowie also stated that they would consider taking part. Anyone else keen on being involved were to see TC.
GH stated that he would not be able to manage the football team at this years annual 7’s tournament. With the venue for this year taking place in Edinburgh the usual date of around the end of June, which was the case in previous years, was now changed to July 9th. GH stated that the date didn’t suit a lot of the football team as players had already had arrangements made for that weekend with holidays etc. GH asked all present that anyone wishing to take charge of the team for that weekend were to contact him.
TC produced a copy of the Scotland On Sunday which he passed around the members to show the colour supplement which had WESTA member Lesley Ingles home being featured.
TC apologised for Kevin Donnelly not being able to attend this months meeting, as planned, to discuss a few new merchandising products that he now has. However, TC had managed to get a hold of the new t-shirt that’s available as well as flashing Scotland flag badges.
TC thanked everyone for their attendance and hoped everyone would enjoy our World Cup double header.
Next meeting is arranged for Sunday 26th June at 7.30pm.
