WESTA were represented by two 5 a side teams in yesterdays first annual Ally McLeod Memorial Tournament at Whittlets in Ayr yesterday.
The WESTA A team had an over 35 theme running and despite getting hammered in the opening game by the eventual beaten finalists went on to qualify as runnersup in their group after a 2 all draw and 2 victories 1 0 and 2 1. Th eA team were eventually beatan in the quarter finals 3 0 by the tournament winners.
The WESTA B team had a distinctly younger look to it as the oldest player was only 22! They did extremely well and won 3 from 4 games in qualifying for the quarter finals. After winning through the QF on penalties after a close the game the guys were unlucky to go down in the semi final 2 0.
A great day all round raised nearly £600 for Ally's Alzheimers charity. The only disappointment was the poor show from fellow Tartan Army clubs as WESTA were the only club represented.
However, it is intended to run the tournament annually hopefully the event will grow and grow.

There will be few sore legs today, particularly in the WESTA "A" team or should we call them The WESTA "OVER 35's".
Congratulations to all involved and to the WESTA teams for making the trip to Ayrshire.
Hey Marky, am I alone in noting that you only referred to the over 35's getting hammered but not referring to the actual result. You can be excused, as this is one of those tournements were it is the taking part and the raising of money for a worthy cause that's important, not the results.
And like you I hope that more teams participate in future events.
Broon.

5 scud is the answer Mr Chairman. To say we were shell shocked would be an accurate description as we were down 3 zip in the opening 2 mins as we struggled to find our sea air legs down the shore.
But we recovered well enough.
