Good wee game of 5's last night at Glasgow Green even if I was breathing oot ma archie for the first 55 minutes!!
I'll be looking to book the Glasgow Green pitch again for next Thursday night and at the same time, between 9pm - 10 pm. The majority of the lads that were there last night will be in attendance along with a few others who have expressed an interest.
The game on Sunday 12th against Blackearnside TA looks like WESTA having one of biggest squads to pick from which makes a welcome difference to trying to get bodies oot there bed an hour before we're leaving for a game. Obviously not everyone will get the chance to take part but I'll do my best to get those coming along involved at somepoint, depending on how the result is going!!
Those who aren't playing but are thinking of coming along to give their support are more than welcome, in fact as I said at the meeting I would love to see more members joining the team on a good day oot. Speaking with the lads from Blackearnside they are putting on a good day for us after the game so if you are keen on going get back to me asap so we know numbers for the bus as spaces are filling up.
Keep an eye on this forum and on your email for details on both the 5's next week and the game on the 12th.
Cheers.

Ok, as long as we've got our priorities sorted out.
I've got a club night out on Saturday night so will no doubt need a curer.

Right lads and burdz',
Sunday 12th March is nearly upon us and for those coming along to another great sporting day oot in the WESTA calendar I have some details for you all.
The bus has been booked and will be leaving the Sports Cafe Bar on Sunday morning at 10.30am!! Remember that time those oot on the sauce the nicht before......aye, that means the Paisley youth team especially!!
Everyone bring money with them to help put towards cover the travel costs as well as buying a pint or three afterwards. The reason I'm saying bring money is due to folk in the past claiming they don't have any with them when they turn up for a game - the guilty know who they are!!!
Kick off up at Abernethy is for 1pm at the Powrie Fitba Park (if i've spelt' that right?!) where I've been told there are really good facilities for both players and supporters - those who like their grub should note that pies will be on sale at the park. So the healthy half time bit of orange will nae doubt be second best there.
For anyone not coming along on the bus with the majority then if you head to Abernethy and drive through looking out for an old knackered disused garage on your left hand side. Just after the garage there is a turning to the left, take it and follow the road round to the right and keep heading on and you'll come to the Powrie pitch.
Its a grass park so bring your football boots. If the weather is really bad over the next few days leading up to the game then it'll be played at another park. If this does happen I'll hear first from the lads at Blackearnside and then let you all know.
As someone has already posted the after game socialising will be at The Ship Hotel, Newburgh which is a few miles along the road from where the game is being played. Again for those not with the team bus just head through Newburgh and they'll find the pub straight across from the Towns House. Rumour has it there is karaoke - all singers to report to the bar with their choice of country classics!!
No exact return time has been decided yet but we'll probably leave just before 6pm to head back down to Glasgow back to The Sports Cafe, although a mixture of bevvy and singing might delay that decision?!
Speaking with the lads from Blackearnside they will be putting on a really good day. For those still deciding what they are doing let me know asap as bus spaces are nearly full with a few limited seats left but it would be great to see as many WESTA folk there as we can get!!
Cheers and c'mon the WESTA!!
Glenn.

Best WESTA turnout ever last night. That must have been due to the "all abilities welcome" statement from the coach.
Greg "the kitten" Fisher was nearly as bad in goals last night as me before I subbed myself.
It was however great to see the Neil Harper "stepover" one last time before it is retired to the Hampden TA Museum.
What are the odds on us Broon as I might get some cash on us?

Ah got ye now. Thats whit Greg was doing there, he was in goals!!! ;D Yes, great turn out from the WESTA team last night. There definitely was all abilities on show last night but if you're breathing and can at least look like you've got an idea what to do with the ball then you're in with a shout. The Neil 'Jim Bett' Harper step over is still alive and well. Also 6ft 2, eyes of blue, big Taliban Dave is after you!! Even the sight of Billy Biggar running about with his top off didnae stop the play flowing from end to end. I wouldn't write us off just yet. Each year they give us long odds (to be fair they are justified at times!!) but we've managed to reduce the average age of the team from 63 to around 29 so its a step in the right direction. For the first time I feel like one of the auld yins in the WESTA team We've more players interested than every before which is great and if the hangovers kick in with our Paisley youth policy we've experienced veterans ready to step from the sidelines to do their bit - blood, guts and snotters!! Lets get the right attitude, and a reduced alcohol intake, before a' baw is kicked or we'll be beat from the off (Bill Shankly had the right idea so I'm nicking his lines) C'mon the WESTA!!!

Quick update folks.... Had a chat this morning with the lads at Blackearnside and the park has now been changed from Abernethy to Freuchie, about 6 miles or so up the road. The park at Abernethy is now going to be unplayable due to the recent rain and with the snow which is forecast for the weekend. The new park is at a cricket ground where the drainage is alot better and even with a 'light covering' of snow we should still be able to go ahead with the game. Alot has been organised between both clubs for it to be stopped at this late stage due to a wee bit of cold weather!! Of course, if the whole of Fife is 8ft under then we'll have to call it a day no matter how much we want the game started I'll only send you all a text in the morning if the game is off. Nothing else has changed though. Bus is still leaving from the Sports Cafe on Sauchiehall Street at 10.30am sharp!! Make sure you're there in good time. Bring your boots with you and maybe a thermal t-shirt as its no exactly going to be Rio when we arrive in Fife See you all in the morning, hopefully not too hungover?! Glenn.

With our game cancelled today due to the severe weather that hit Scotland during the night we will be re-arranging our game against Blackearnside TA in the next week or two.
Please keep an eye on the forum to find out when that will be. As soon as a date is agreed between both clubs then I'll be in touch with everyone.
Fingers crossed we can fit the game in for our meeting on the 26th then we can take more supporters through than we had down for today?! We'll just have to wait and see......
Cheers.
Glenn.
